Pros

Speaking from an IT perspective: Company culture is okay, for the most part everyone just seems to keep to themselves. I assume this also depends on the team. Work hours are flexible if working in IT. State benefits are decent. Buildings, work locations are nice for IT staff.

Cons

Recruiters will try to low ball you, UNC Health Care likes to try to get everything on the cheap. I've been offered below average salary for my job title(s) and skills twice now by UNC Health Care, I don't think I'll ever apply for another position again due to this fact. Make sure you know exactly what your job title is and what it entails, research state pay bands if you can. Also know if you try to negotiate they would rather see you walk away then pay you $1-2 more an hour (This happened to me the first time I applied.) This is due to an archaic pay band structure they have in place, based on years of experience rather than skills, market value, and education. They will also let you walk away if you get a better offer, and don't try very hard to keep you. Also the interview process is exhausting and outdated. UNC Health Care utilizes "Hiring for Excellence" which requires a one hour phone screen, one hour technical interview, and then a 3 hour final interview in which they ask you multiple behavorial based questions, some of which repeat throughout the interviews. They also ask you to have 5 references, which is a bit excessive. Other companies in the same area/business do not ask this of you. All in all with the interviews and references they expect you to put a lot into the interview process only to turn around and present a low salary offer. No telecommuting options currently, not even for cloud apps teams.
