Pros

Training is adequate, 12 weeks in core, 4 weeks per bench. Staff is generally friendly, but work ethic varies greatly between team members. Continuing education opportunities are provided. I enjoy working in a different bench every day, but they all have their own problems of course. I like having an on site pharmacy for employees and the cafeteria is mediocre but it definitely adds up if you don't pack lunches.

Cons

Wesley Burks UNC Health CEO Wesley Burks is the system’s top paid executive. His compensation is from $3 millionto $2.4 million. & he's leaving UNC to be head of the new Children's Hospital where he will undoubtably make so much more $. That is unethical, especially in a non-profit hospital system where the "lowest tier" employees rely on Medicaid and Food Assistance programs. New hire pay for recent graduates is $23/hr and that's pretty miserable even with the UNC "market rate adjustment". I don't know who made up this sad number when it should realistically be starting at $30/hr for new hires in a large metropolitan area like Raleigh. It certainly does not allow a liveable wage for a single person trying to live on their own. High turnover rate especially on second and third shift. Whole staff has turned over about twice in 6 years I believe, except a handful of ready-to-retire staff. Very high-deductible insurance, I don't even bother to get it. Staff that goes above and beyond doesn't get recognized or bonuses, rather they get asked to work extra shifts. Layout is cramped; you need to turn if you have broad shoulders to get by anyone passing the other way. If you advance your education or certification, a pay increase and title change almost never occurs. Management doesn't consider this a teaching hospital, even though we take students for clinical rotations; so it's impossible to advance if you want a management position.

Great flexible scheduling, so much to see!

Pros

The pay is good and they offer incentives for picking up shifts on other units.

Cons

Always getting floated to work other units that are short staffed.
