Pros
As a UPMC employee, I was offered a substantial PTO accrual rate beginning at a little over 18 days a year. I am even allowed to purchase up to an additional 5 days during open enrollment.
Cons
Even though UPMC as a whole has a substantial PTO allowance there is little to no oversight regarding individual Unit Directors at UPMC hospitals who don't allow their employees to reasonably take their accrued PTO. Because of this many people including myself have hit the ceiling of the maximum allowed hours of PTO they can accrue and are not able to take substantial enough time off as to not lose a portion of this benefit.
