Pros

Looks good on a resume as a platform for leaving. The hospital is beautiful and constantly remodeled providing an aesthetically pleasing work atmosphere. Free transit via their shuttles.

Cons

Coming to grips with the daily feelings of overwhelming guilt and disgust for having any association with a greedy, profit driven company posing itself as a charity. Zero recognition for achievements and no bonuses as supervisors take credit for your accomplishments and success. Promotions are very hard to come by unless you are attractive; those who are deserving of promotions only enjoy more responsibility for the same pay and title, so there is very little incentive to go the extra mile. Additionally, employees that show an extreme lack of care or are completely inept at doing their jobs are worked around instead of being fired or demoted, or at the very least reprimanded. Favoritism for attractive employees, including special freedoms from dress code, scheduling, and basic requirements of the job description including adhering to laws. Experiencing great inner turmoil over having to be a party to the manipulation of patients so that the hospital can avoid losing a cent in profits. Persistent harassment from higher ups and people outside of your department with no sympathy or relief from supervisors even when faced with extreme levels of pettiness. Being pressured to defend the company publicly against unflattering claims made about UPMC in the media. Low pay unless you threaten to leave for a better offer. Being forced into making unethical decisions only so as to benefit UPMC's profits.
