Pros

Amazing co-workers that made shifts more bearable, opportunities for growth

Cons

Understaffed constantly. Even with a union in place, when I worked there as a new grad I was taking 6 PCU patients during the height of COVID with no/minimal PCT's. After 6 months on the floor I was pulled as a charge nurse despite no proper training in place. I also was given a student without any notice. So, I would be charge nurse, with 6 PCU patients, maybe one PCT that had a patient load of 30+ patients on a STEPDOWN/PCU unit, and have a student to teach. On nights, towards the end of my employment we'd typically have two RN's on one end of the unit and one RN and the only PCT on the other end for the full 12 hour shift. No telemetry techs at this hospital, so no one is watching the monitor while everyone is with patients. I always say I was baptized in the fire. When I ask past co-workers now about the state of the hospital allegedly its only gotten worse. Very traveler heavy which, in my eyes, is no issue. As a fellow travel nurse its usually a huge red flag when a hospital is a majority of travel nurses with minimal core staff.
