Pros

The training, camaraderie, teamwork, unique opportunities, and sense of accomplishment are incredible. In general, most Airmen (coworkers) are great people and the longer you serve, the larger your military family & friends will grow.

Cons

There are some (a few) "bad apples"...existing at all ranks, and a bad leader or supervisor can ruin your career at will, and they can do so with ease and little or no repercussions. Unfortunately, as a military member, you don't simply quit or find a new job; departing on unfavorable terms will have lifelong impacts to your veteran benefits and your ability to get hired elsewhere. Sometimes allegations, whether true or false, can lead to loss of pay, confinement, and a federal conviction under UCMJ. Most employers simply want to know if you served in the military and if you received an "honorable discharge." If you check anything other than yes to the second question, many employers will discard your application without asking anything about the circumstances, which could have been very minor, such as grooming/uniform appearance, missing an appointment, or even getting a parking ticket. If a "bad apple" supervisor/leader/commander wants to crush you, they can and will, and there are ample rules/scenarios at their availability to either "catch you" in a violation, or fabricate a violation.

Pros

Teaches you a trade while paying you. Social appreciation. Purpose. If you have no idea what you want to do with your life especially as far as a career goes, run to a recruiter. Regardless of whereever you come from a military career is your stepping stone into middle class and up living and career opportunity.

Cons

Every extra dollar you attempt to make beyond your rank will require more work than you will be paid to do. The real payoff monetarily you get from competing in the military will come in to play during your post life. Confidence, courage, accountability, etc are not standard attributes in people at all.
