Pros

Federal health and retirement benefits that are now rare in the private sector. The federal work force average age is approaching retirement age. This will offer career advancement opportunities for federal employees who enter federal goverment during this time period. Once senior management positions are filled and held by employees, rapid career advancement will stagnant for twenty or thirty years.

Cons

The politicians who run the federal goverment are in trouble with the american public. Normally they try to work with and protect career federal goverment employees, however given the public's anger over finicial mismanagement they are offering the career goverment worker as a scapegoat to deflect anger from themselves.
