Pros
Easiest of premier law enforcement agencies to get hired into(degree with zero experience or no-degree with experience). Excellent training at two federal academies FLETC and JJRTC Great experience with protection and planning at political events and important persons(POTUS, VPOTUS, Families, Heads of State, some cabinet ) Lots of international travel all over the world, domestically, etc. Not a mentally or intellectually hard job Excellent Pay, start at a GS-9 with Masters or Bachelors and experience; After 5-6 years make 150K plus up to max out of 189000(over cap limit). Get availability pay(25 percent) for job demands after hours. Typically in field office, get a car/gas card for official duties(work to home)
Cons
Very busy periods of work like campaigns, U.N, Summits, G Summits. Lots of travel sometimes for three week increments Almost all agents career track takes them to a six year assignment in Washington DC.( can be 8 years which is a third of your career) Low morale among many junior employees not mentally prepared for work requirements/long hours/travel/ lack of days off. Have to put in for weekends/days off on some assignments/offices. Work much more than other federal agencies but get similar regular pay and LEAP with demand to move 1-3 times in a career. Not family friendly(high divorce rate), Highest suicide rate of federal law enforcement per capita. Poor quality of new employees since standards are lower, now it is military mindset of ALL AVAILABLE APPLICANTS,: you may work with a poor quality worker, person who is in wrong job, etc.
