Pros

-Most of the people are fantastic and owners are generally great people with good intentions. -It’s nice to have a mix of local and state projects, so you’ll learn a lot. -Decent to good benefits (minus health insurance) and great 401k bonuses. -Good work/life balance for the most part, although some make it abundantly clear they work 50-60 hours every week.

Cons

-“Anonymous” surveys are not as advertised, and are used as fuel in annual reviews by some (unfortunate but true). -Newer managers have brought with them a culture of disparaging current and former employees or colleagues (observed on multiple occasions in front of large groups). That’s not the kind of leadership or culture the owners want. -Office is very dated and pretty depressing.

Pros

Ownership is engaged & accessible. They make time for employees, are thoughtful about individual situations, and create opportunities for growth. When the company performs well, that success is shared with staff (& is generous).

Cons

As with any growing company (& particularly in this industry), workloads can be demanding at times -but leadership is receptive when concerns are raised.

Pros

USI cares about their staff and offer opportunities for growth and cross training. They offer flexibility and this allows you to maintain a good work life balance. USI also prioritizes giving back to their communities via a philanthropy board and multiple volunteer event every year.

Cons

Nothing big to note. As with many places, it seems to take awhile for company wide changes to be implemented (I.e. new software or procedures).
