Pros

Great advancement and educational opportunities for nurses. Academic environment. Benefits are better than most private companies. Employees can work part time and still receive full time benefits. Extended maternity leaves possible.

Cons

Benefits cost has gone up significantly in the last 5 years. Parking is expensive and there is not enough space in the close lots for all employees to park within walking distance. Inpatient units are very busy and frequently lack adequate staffing for safe patient care and breaks for staff. It is very difficult for breastfeeding mothers working on inpatient units to drink enough water and take breaks to pump. There are not enough lactation rooms and staff either have to wait for a room to open up or go to another room that is a 10-15 minute round trip walk from their unit which uses up a significant amount of the paid pumping time allowed. Morale is low on some units.

Pros

Great benefits. Fair pay. Honest policies.

Cons

This company has its cliques and you will feel isolated if you don't blend in as expected. If you find yourself not quite fitting in, it is best to find another company to work for.
