Culture of silence and fear that is border line militaristic and oppressive Long working days that also include taking work home during the week and weekends in a very unsustainable manner Little to no SPED considerations No autonomy to create lesson plans. The lesson plans are not suggestions, or guiding material , they are law. Leadership is sometimes openly racist, and feedback is delivered to teachers in the same way it is delivered to children ... With a condescending manner that is even more pronounced if you are poc. Also 8th graders cannot be held back even if they fail all 5 classes No arts programs whatsoever , and if you offer to do it, know it is unpaid. No extra curriculars, and if you do it, again it is unpaid. I applied to teach history , I am now also teaching math due to state exams and teaching ELA (all of which is not compensated and with little preparation). I honestly feel bad for the kids in my math group. The school just didn't want to pay for math tutors so makes use of the teachers they have. Coverage is insane, as there are no substitute teachers. This means that if someone is out, you are covering additional hours of teaching, sometimes without a thank you.
