Pros

They help you get your certification

Cons

They police your every movement and facial expression. The hours are mainly 7-5. Sometimes they make you come earlier or stay later. PD is ineffective and a waste of time. Most of is it is spent watching adults acting, pretending to teach pretend students. Scenarios are unrealistic and do not prepare you for what teaching is like in the actual classroom. Leaders are more concerned about optics than anything else. Very cliquey toxic environment, if express any disagreement or individuality that departs from the mold of “uncommon” you will be ignored, targeted, and passively pushed out by leadership. Abusive practices towards students. Not a safe space for queer teachers or students. When you show initiative they exploit you and your labor. Not to mention they pay is so low. I found a new job that pays me SIGNIFICANTLY more for shorter hours and better benefits. You will leave this place with PTSD and mental health issues.

Pros

Uncommon Schools is a really positive, warm environment. People work hard and have tons of joy in their collaboration!

Cons

We are growing quickly, so the work load is busy! This isn't really a con, just something for new folks to be aware of :)
