Pros

Great retirement package. Nice company bonus when all is going well. Good health insurance, but high deductibles and does not help to cover needed name brand prescriptions or specialists having so there can be some out of pocket expenses. Okay Vision/Dental plans.

Cons

Lots of "old boy" network makes it hard to break through "this is the way we have always done it" points of view. Intermediate management lacks focus in areas which can create chaos for lower level management to keep driving initiatives forward. Performance based review systems isn't always "performance" based, can be fairly subjective and depends on your manager. Performance increases can be low. Be prepared to manage the stress of being a continual change agent to get things done.

Pros

There are several pros working for Union Pacific. Pros are the pay, union membership, and opportunities to travel

Cons

Cons are also Travel. The shift I am on you are supposed to be gone for eight d ays and home for six. But it actually translates into gone for 9 1/2 days by the time you include your travel days which put you only home for 4 to 4 1/2 days every 14 days.
