Pros

I have had a great internship experience here as an intern. I have had a lot to learn a lot as an intern but as just an intern I had the opportunity to be able to contribute to production code and meetings as a member of the team.

Cons

Nothing comes to mind at the moment.

Pros

Small company with not a lot of work to do. It is an easy job, but you will likely be bored.

Cons

Family Company! If you are not a part of the family then this is not the place for you. The other comment is a complete lie. There is no room for growth and the company is old fashioned with no plans to update Anything! If you like to be micro managed then this is the place for you! Engineers are never allowed to go direct so beware. Very hostile work environment. You will be talked to like a child and treated as such. Benefits aren’t great with high co-pays and neither is the retirement match. Management will try to make you look bad just to make themselves look better. Beware of this company. They are very two faced. They also blame employees for things that were already bad before. The business is going down hill. There is also no work schedule flexibility. They want you working 9-5 no matter what and only let certain people work from home. It’s completely biased. You will be heavily watched. Every email you send has to be read and approved by management. You can’t do anything without approval. Trust me, stay away from this company if you care about your well being at work!

As an employee who worked with us for more than a year, it is disheartening to hear that you were so unhappy; especially when these issues were not brought to our attention to enable a change to be made. USDI is not a large corporation and is privately owned which allows us to treat our entire team as a family. We have been flexible with schedules including allowing for adjustments for day-care hours, class schedules and even volunteer efforts. We have also allowed remote working whenever needed and time off for anything including personal, family, or home-related events. USDI was established 30 years ago and we have always had the belief that it is the quality of work, not the quantity of hours that matters. If an employee exhibits a strong work ethic, the flexibility is available. Micromanaging is not the management style that we strive for at USDI. As with any company, there will be a training period in which the employee will work closely with their supervisor or another employee to understand our current process. Once a level of confidence is established, then we strongly encourage independent work while always encouraging open communication and suggestions. And, yes, we believe in double-checking company strategy-related emails to be sure we are all on the same page. Our managers use this practice between themselves to double-check accuracy. Content that is sent out in emails cannot be retracted. In addition to being a premiere talent placement firm, USDI is also a consulting firm. Our customers often prefer to hire a third party to do the work instead of bringing on another employee. This is where our engineering consultants come in. Our consultants are part of the USDI team working at the customer site. This is a very common practice, especially in the automotive world. Our company IS only as good as its employees and to obtain top talent, we provide a very competitive benefits package including health insurance and a dental and optical reimbursement program. We also offer a retirement program with a company match of 3% which is well within the average range. Again, it is very disheartening to hear about your discontent. We are a growing company and as such, will have bumps in the road. We strive to be fair and just and always have treated our USDI Team as family. I am not sure how many companies not only invite their past employees to company events but have them show up by the dozens to show their continued support. Not all organizations are a good fit for all individuals and at USDI we are, and will remain, very excited about our future and are always on the lookout for enthusiastic team players who are looking to grow personally as well as professionally! We wish you all the best!
