University Health System

Engaged Employer

I worked in patient registration and everyone was underpaid and overworked with no real training or managerial support. - Financial Registration Representative University Health System Employee Review

Pros

You get great medical benefits including major medical, dental, vision, cancer, retirement, disablity, etc. The PTO accrual rate was 8 hours for every two weeks, which you could cash in or save up for extended leave (ie maternity).

Cons

You never get any formal training or managerial support. You are forced to work overtime. Parking is deducted from your paycheck monthly and specific uniforms are required for all staff. Actually taking your earned PTO is difficult because managers do not want to approve any leave of absence. There are no leadership opportunities and the only people who thrive in the financial and registration side of University are the ones that ensure they are covered when any problems arise. The culture is horrendous and the turn over rate for employees far exceed anything you'd expect even from a teaching facility!

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re glad to hear you’ve had a positive experience with our nurse residency program and feel supported by leadership. Creating a strong foundation for new nurses is important to our mission and to the care we provide our community. We also understand how frustrating it can be when the parking garage fills quickly. Your feedback is helpful as we continue looking for ways to support our team members’ day-to-day experience.

Pros

Good benefits, consistent hours and work, holiday pay. Great co-workers but the leads were more approachable than upper management.

Cons

It's a lot of who you know and not what you know. There is a lot of hand waving with any issues you bring up and management may target you for any small reason. Beware of Management, they can go on a power trip. One or more members of upper management can block progress if you ever plan on moving out of the department. Pay is behind the times and your reviews will never match your output. Manager is not approachable but wants you to go to them before you tell anyone else. If you see something, you're better off either not saying anything or reporting it anonymously. Very political, lots of favoritism.

Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback about your experience. We’re glad to hear the benefits, hospital coverage and relationships with caring coworkers were meaningful parts of your time with University Health. Team members who support one another and stay focused on patients make a real difference every day. We also take your concerns about leadership, fairness, communication and advancement seriously. A professional work environment depends on trust, consistency and clear expectations, and team members should feel that internal opportunities are handled with transparency and follow-up. Your comments point to several areas that deserve attention, and we appreciate the thought you put into sharing them. If you would like to provide additional details, Human Resources is available to receive that feedback.
