Pros

Um PTO possibly, just maybe?

Cons

Pay is nowhere near, even close, to their competitor’s that are in the same area. Attendance policy is completely laughable (mostly because that ANYTIME you’re late or are unexpectedly out, even if it’s because you get in a car wreck or literally have a medical emergency; (ex: stroke, heart attack, etc.), it does not matter - you get an immediate & documented incident. Since PTO is only given 15 minutes at a time, being 16 minutes late, regardless of the uncontrollable reason, you get 0.75 minutes towards you allotted 10 incidents. You’re only allowed up to 3 incidents before you’re put on a PIP, & if you have 10 incidents before they roll off, you’ll be immediately be terminated. Any time you, or your child, or family member have a doctor’s appt that cannot be taken place after you get off work & you have to go. You either have to use your PTO for some or all of your day to be able to go and not get an incident. So there’s no flex time you can do in that same pay period for it, nor is there any unplanned PTO time offered for situations such as that. It’s completely UNREALISTIC. Another con is the terrible training that does not last long enough for the customer associate role, especially if it’s someone coming in with only a customer service background with no insurance/supplemental insurance background or a call center background. Also, the training is via webcam! Even if the entirety of new hires have been hired for a CSS position for Unum & are all at the same location (Chattanooga, TN). Last thing that will truly make this the worst company/job to work at, if the ATMOSPHERE/MORALE. If you want to work at a company or in a department where everything is so impersonal to the extent where you are literally alone all day with barely any to no connection with or to be made, with fellow teammates, senior leaders, and especially your direct supervisor, then this is the company/department that your belong in. Coming as a person who worked in a call center at Cigna for years, I understand that being in a call center environment you do not get to talk freely a lot with your teammates/friends. However, there were tons of different opportunities given to build that rep-or &/or friendship. I have literally never been so depressed, sickened & unhappy at a job to the extent that just walking in the building drained me. Every. single. day.

Pros

Pto, good company to work for career wise, good discounts on things+discount for food on site.

Cons

Overworked like crazy, I was hired a few months ago but am already looking for something else, due to the stress and constant feeling of “wow finally i think im starting to get this” all to be reminded when submitting your tasks for mentor review you either did it right or have to redo the whole entire thing from scratch that is if your mentor is even available. Depending on your mentor as well that can really damper your experience and overall understanding. Training could have been done a lot better initially with constant exposure to different task types and different material. For example Medical certifications could have been shown over and over again for us to understand if it’s complete, incomplete and what significant health condition it would be for coding. With other team members also leaving as training ended and senior team members leaving once we got assigned the writing was on the wall. I really wanted to give Unum a shot and really try to see myself here, maybe it’s just the position of leave specialist or maybe all the jobs are the same, still can’t help but wonder if another position would’ve suited me better if they allowed role transfers sooner instead of waiting a minimum full year.
