Business Outlook
Pros
Faculty and professionals are in a union with contractual protections, benefits and raises. There is good collegiality, the campus and hospital are centrally located, the surrounding community has a very low cost of living. The hospital is well run by an outstanding CEO, medical care and teaching is excellent.
Cons
Frequent shifts of leadership create stress for the campus and the hospital that has been palpable in the past. Raises are pegged to the union contract. Research employees work stability is dependent on grant funding. In terms of leadership positions and hires of women Upstate is behind other medical schools. The community in general is a step back in time.
