Pros

They offer 30 vacation days to start for full-time employees.

Cons

This company has layoffs almost every year. The turnover in senior leadership is like a revolving door. Every six months there are new people coming in and leaving shortly thereafter. Worst of all, they are firing people inappropriately and offering severance packages to those being unfairly terminated to avoid legal action for improper dismissals.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your comments. We are sorry that you don’t share our excitement about VNSNY and its future. Please note that VNSNY offers new employees 30 paid time off days per year, not “vacation” days, as stated. These days are to be used for all time off needs, not just vacation. Like every organization that exists in an ever-changing environment, VNSNY has created new leadership positions to provide the strategic guidance necessary to keep us competitive in an ever-evolving marketplace. Our leadership teams consist of both people with long tenure and people who have joined us from other health care providers and health plans, providing VNSNY with a healthy balance of expertise about our business. And just like other healthcare organizations, VNSNY is constantly finding more efficient and effective means for meeting its customers’ needs. At times, this has resulted in staffing reductions. However, we have worked diligently with impacted staff to place them in other vacant positions within the organization. When this has not been possible, affected employees have been offered severance packages. Although severance is not legally required, VNSNY believes that severance can provide a security bridge to the impacted employee’s next job. It is in no way motivated by a desire to avoid legal action. VNSNY has proudly served the New York community for 125 years and plans to be here, in this century and beyond, with a clear understanding of the challenges in the health care landscape and a new strategic direction based on the unique competencies that we have as an organization. The Board fully supports the strategic direction and our senior leadership team as a whole. Our leaders strike a balance between keeping their eyes on the horizon ahead and staying in touch with the day-to-day realities of the work that we do each day. Our President and Chief Executive Officer has served VNSNY for over 35 years, providing a full understanding of the work we do at every level. Above all, they recognize the importance of engaged employees who are vested in our broader mission and service to the community. We encourage you to speak with your manager or senior leader about your concerns so we can address them more fully.

We’re glad you’ve found VNS Health to be a strong place to work and that the resources available to you have been useful. Clinical onboarding needs to prepare people thoroughly, but it should also recognize the knowledge and experience someone brings into the role. We’ll keep that balance in mind as we continue improving the onboarding experience.

Thank you for sharing this. We’re glad to hear that you see job opportunities at VNS Health. With so many different programs and services across the organization, we’re proud to be a place where people can build their careers, explore different paths, and grow over time. You’re also right that there have been changes in senior leadership, and we understand how that can create uncertainty. Like many healthcare organizations, VNS Health continues to adapt to meet the changing needs of the people and communities we serve. As we move through change, we know how important it is to give teams clarity, context, and steady communication along the way.
