Pros

Great 401K, Medical, Dental & Vision coverage

Cons

The work atmosphere in Customer Service is stale. Constant-changing work schedules, high turnover (yes, even during the state of this economy) and on the phones for 98% of the work day make it impossible to get to know any of your team co-workers very well. I can't have a normal, work-related conversation with a co-worker or supervisor without receiving a phone call which takes priority. Management is out of touch with the job that I do that any advice or mentoring that is provided is irrelevant to the job. Resources for truly understanding more about my workflow are few and brief. Company gave me 4 months of training but after 9 months on the job, realize that the classroom training provided was not even half of the knowledge it takes to provide exceptional customer service. Company's setup for providing knowledge to our customers is by reading verbatim from a resource online with disregard as to whether I understand the 'whys & hows' of the info I'm providing. Finally, employee performance evaluations and grievances are not private. They are made public in various ways and in very grade school fashion.

Pros

The organization has been around for years but so have a bunch of their employees. Some employees evolve and some are stuck in their ways. There's various departments within VSP so there's a good chance you'll find a position that's right for you.

Cons

It's a not for profit organization so imagine working for a "sales department" that's part of a not for profit organization. There's a juxtaposition that takes place between a not for profit organization and their sales dept. As a not for profit organization you can make profits to pay salaries but not too much profit and not too much salary.
