Low Standards Across the Board - Assistant Professor Virginia Union University Employee Review

The president and the administration are corrupt, unprofessional, and disorganized. They actually hired new faculty to start on January 2, 2018 but informed them by January 10 that they would no longer have their jobs at the end of that semester due to budget cuts. It was unethical, irresponsible, and reckless of them to treat people that way, especially those who had relocated from other states. The administration allowed some to finish the semester but tried to get them to resign the week they gave these notices in exchange for low-balled severance pay. Even worse, the administration made the decisions about who to let go randomly instead of letting the department chairs decide who they wanted to keep if at all possible. The Board of Trustees brought in a new president, despite the fact that he had been sued by another college for fraud. It was embarrassing to see the local news show up on campus to cover the story. New faculty learned about this after the fact, of course. The new president lied to faculty right before announcing the aforementioned budget cuts. This school underpays faculty. Salaries are not commensurate with education and experience. Standards for academics are abysmally low there. Most students were not capable of college-level work and were not willing to put in the work required to catch up. Some did not have the ability and had simply been taken advantage of so the school could collect their tuition money while others had a ridiculous sense of entitlement and were just too lazy to apply themselves.
