Pros

Easy hiring, no references called, no prior experience or training needed

Cons

No work life balance; you're expected to be on call at all times, and if they change your schedule is up to you to check every hour and never make plans for yourself. According to management they can change your schedule as much as they need to without ever telling you, and you have to adhere to it, regardless of when they change it. In trouble for being 15 minutes late to a client when they changed the appointment time while I was driving on my way to see them at their previously scheduled time. You're expected to stop everything if the schedule changes, making a second job or school impossible. They also make agenda perform work that LEGALLY they cannot do!! HHAs do not do diapers, baths, or hoyer lifts per guidelines set by the Texas Board of Nursing and board of Licensing. They all untrained staff to perform CNA skills without training or certification, and if a patient is hurt, that agent is legally liable. When I confronted the office about this, they started that they weren't subject to the nursing laws and safety regulations. They don't care if you are hurt doing your job.

Pros

Fairly flexible schedule, not much micromanaging.

Cons

Pay keeps changing and not for the better. I started out as salary, then it changed to per visit, plus a small per hour wage. Now, with the latest change, you don't get the per hour unless you have at least 3 visits a day. seems easy right? nope. Clients cancel the visit for whatever reason, or caregivers call in sick and you cannot do a visit unless the CG is there. It is difficult to get another client to agree to a last minute visit. We have lost clients or clients have had their hours for CG's cut due to government cuts to the VA. This makes having enough clients to see in order to make your weekly quota difficult. Insurance is very expensive and they encourage you to find your own outside of the company. PTO is earned at less than 3 hours a week. No sick time. You spend many nights per week making your schedule and then redoing it when a client cancels or a caregiver calls in. This is all non paid time.
