Pros
The biggest pro to working here is that Vobile doesn’t suffer from the same problem that I’ve seen a lot of companies struggle with, which is too many cooks in the kitchen. There’s a very clear, top-down management style that makes it much easier for us as a whole to get things done. We all know our roles, and we all know where one role ends and another begins. There’s a very clear hierarchy and structure, and transparent channels to go through. I’m sure some people could see this as a negative, but I’ve worked in more “fluid” work environments where several people at the top believed they held all the power and those beneath kept getting conflicting messages and requests, and it just led to a whole host of unnecessary confusion that ended up creating more work for everyone. It was the exact opposite of ideal, even if some people could claim to have a lot of “job autonomy”. For me it’s just not worth it to have to do things over again.
Cons
Like I said, I’m sure some people would be completely turned off by how much structure there is. It’s not the ideal work environment for everyone. Personally, I think it’s best suited to more right brain, type A individuals, although a few of my colleagues are more creative types and they’ve expressed an appreciation for the structure as well, so I guess it’s really just a person to person kind of thing.
