Pros

I am not sure how this company is still alive and hiring

Cons

Hear me out—I’m originally from the Quad Cities and grew up going to Von Maur for all my important life events: prom, graduation, interviews—you name it. It was always a place I held in really high regard. My interview experience with HR was great, and my first day felt promising, but after those things shifted quickly. My first week was fine on the surface, but there were immediate inconsistencies. I had asked for clarity on the dress code beforehand yet was later corrected on what I wore ((gray pants vs. black, women can only wear black), which felt unnecessary and unclear. I also requested a health-related accommodation, and the way it was handled felt extremely inappropriate and lacking in privacy. I spent time in the distribution center during a high-volume period, which I understand can be all hands-on deck, but it was not what I had initially signed up for. The environment overall felt like a complete time warp—outdated systems, processes that haven’t evolved, and equipment and safety measures that didn’t seem to match the volume they were handling. It made operations far more difficult and dangerous than they needed to be. I didn’t have many connections on the corporate side, so I made an effort to introduce myself to managers and team members I was working alongside. Those meetings were canceled by my boss, which made it difficult to build any relationships and ultimately felt extremely isolating. When I tried to raise that concern, there didn’t seem to be openness to the conversation. Honestly, it felt like I was being bullied by my boss's for trying to understand Von Maur and their community, which is something I never want to experience again. There was a clear expectation to simply follow direction without asking questions. When I did ask questions, the response was typically “this is how we’ve always done it.”

Pros

Employee discount- 20%. Can't find anything else positive!

Cons

1.Schedule is all over the place 2. Have to do truck twice a week with 0 help and just 1 person per dept. 3. Worst benefits EVER, pto given out every quarter which makes it hard to plan any time off.. you get like 20hrs every quarter... 4. Not allowed to take any unpaid time off.. 5. You get points for being late 1 minute, yes 1 minute and you get an tardee.. 6. Wannabe Micromanagers. 7. Managers hired straight out of collage with 0 work experiance who try to tell ppl with 20+ retail experiance how to do their jobs. 8. 0 communication and that is about anything.. if your co worker from your dept. Calls sick that day , you are not told but have to ask yourself when you see that they are not there.. 9. Dress code is a joke. Mr.VonMaur is stuck in the 80s.
