Pros

Made life-long friends with coworkers. Not required to take work home.

Cons

I worked at Von Maur for a little over three years, and now that I'm a few months removed I realize how negatively the work environment impacted my mental health. While I do feel that the positions I held were good opportunities to start a career path right out of college, the company's corporate culture is toxic. That's not hyperbole, and I don't use the term lightly - I dealt with anxiety and depression that was a direct result of my employment. I witnessed coworkers experience legitimate medical issues that resulted from inane and archaic policies related to water consumption and dress code. Initially, the dress code and other particularly strict policies didn't bother me much, as many companies have similar rules. The problem lies in how these rules are enforced: it's infantilizing and belittling to employees.

Pros

Employee discount- 20%. Can't find anything else positive!

Cons

1.Schedule is all over the place 2. Have to do truck twice a week with 0 help and just 1 person per dept. 3. Worst benefits EVER, pto given out every quarter which makes it hard to plan any time off.. you get like 20hrs every quarter... 4. Not allowed to take any unpaid time off.. 5. You get points for being late 1 minute, yes 1 minute and you get an tardee.. 6. Wannabe Micromanagers. 7. Managers hired straight out of collage with 0 work experiance who try to tell ppl with 20+ retail experiance how to do their jobs. 8. 0 communication and that is about anything.. if your co worker from your dept. Calls sick that day , you are not told but have to ask yourself when you see that they are not there.. 9. Dress code is a joke. Mr.VonMaur is stuck in the 80s.
