Pros
Starting pay is higher than other retail locations in the area. 1 Weekend off a month, plus all major holidays off. (2 weekends + paid holidays once you have been employed for a year.) No crazy Black Friday/Holiday hours. Coworkers are great and some have become good friends of mine. 20% discount on everything but vintage luxury handbags.
Cons
Management is wildly inconsistent in enforcing policies and at times it seems like they would make up something just to write you up. And they will write you up several months after the "incident" occurred so that you can't defend yourself. Don't expect to be promoted even if you are more than qualified unless you are personally friends with management. They play favorites. Dress code is sexist and embarrassingly outdated. Women must wear hosiery and a skirt at all times, and keep their arms covered. You will never get more than 35 or 36 hours a week if you are full time, and they frequently send you home early if you do somehow manage to get above that. Even during the holidays. This company does not care about its employees. If you are 1 minute late, it is an unexcused tardy, it doesn't matter why you were late. if you are sick and in the hospital, they will still write you up for missing work. They do not accept doctor's excuses. If you are written up for anything (and you probably will be--even if you are a good employee) you are not eligible for a raise for over a year. They will hound you about achieving your sales and credit goals but offer no bonus or incentive for doing so.
