Pros
The majority of the employees are "team" players, but if you give a little extra in the beginning, especially to those who are a little distant at first, and get to know the co-workers, and let them get to know you, the environment is fabulous! Von Maur is a great place to work!! Hang in there, and things will fall into place, and everyone will be happy!
Cons
I wish a couple of store managers could observe other managers, and learn that you can be a great manager, and still give the employees the respect they deserve. Sometimes, when you give a person a title, like Manager, they feel entitled to act a little "superior" to the employees that they used to work with, but I believe that if you stay a little personal with those that you used to work with, the transition to becoming a manager would be smoother. Most employees understand that a fellow co-worker who gets a promotion has to take on a greater responsibility, but they shouldn't think they are "all-of-a-sudden" better than everyone else. Guess what, "REALITY CHECK", yesterday the new manager was in the same place as the co-workers. You don't "SUDDENLY" get a pass to the higher place in the company. You have to EARN it. And earning it, I believe, takes time. I, myself, have spent time in the military, as a "nothing" and as a leader in R.O.T.C., and in college, as an RA, and in many positions in the recreation management field over the past decade. Although I never worked in retail, or retail management, I think the concepts must be similar. I Love Von Maur, and in the short time I have worked there, I have met and learned a lot about the people who work there and the company, and I love it. I will be sad when the season is over, and I have to move on, but I think this is the greatest department store that ever existed, and i hope that I can work with Von Maur again someday, seasonal or not!
