Pros

Flexible hours, benefits, friendly coworkers

Cons

Favoritism, you’re seen as disposable despite busting your tail. I’ve worked for Vons for almost 4 years with little recognition. I never called out, I showed up on time, every time, I came in to cover shifts and did more than was asked of me because that’s just my work ethic and I wanted to show that I deserved to be paid for my tenacity, dedication and honest good work. I got nothing. Yeah, a gift card as a “thank you” while I watched other employees get promoted to good paying positions (front end) even though I’ve been there longer and proven myself. Favoritism much? Yes indeed. Not senority or work ethic. Favoritism. I was stuck in the Starbucks kiosk for 3 YEARS!! I wasn’t able to get paid anything greater and begged to be taken out. Why would I want to be making coffee for the rest of my life? I’m worth more than that and the management KNEW that about me yet is making it incredibly difficult to promote me to front end? I’m not some teenager who just graduated high school and is working here because my parents want me out the house. I’m in my 30s and cannot live on part time minimum wage!!! Then they want to write me up for lunch violations I wasn’t aware I got while others got violations and only received a verbal warning....again, favoritism... If I get fired for such things I was never valuable to begin with and that would be embarrassed that I worked there so long.

Pros

Excellent, straightforward, comprehensive training program and learning modules to ramp up quickly. Management was reasonable and attentive. It was welcoming and I felt respected, and gave my all as a result. They also make sure people don't stay longer or go without a break after the 5-hour mark; this is a California statute with which I was unfamiliar (I was guilty of working long hours without a lunch break in CT due to

Cons

This likely comes with the territory, but a significant percentage of the target customer demographic are of the needlessly disrespectful, uncivil, infantile, entitled, and rich variety. They contrive conflict and attempt to pin it on the workers, or needlessly change their order after it has been obtained. It is child's play. Company policy says to never call the police unless they are a threat to safety, but they absolutely do disturb the peace and ruin the experience for others. It doesn't help that there is an expensive (not necessarily upscale in terms of class) drinking establishment in the same plaza.
