Pros

Plenty of co-workers to socialize with. Not a ton of micro-managing. Supervisors are fair.

Cons

I always look to find the good in everything. I try not to complain and I understand that work is work. However, Vons and Safeway will work you as hard as they can under unrealistic expectations until you can no longer handle it. terrible pay and a "discount" for every 500 dollars you spend, you recieve a 25 dollar gift card...to vons.... - They push the limit on Union rules -You MUST pay your union dues or else get fired -You will be forced to do jobs you were NOT hired for: For example, I was hired as a bagger but (No exaggeration) I was working produce, bakery, service desk, checker, bagger, starbucks barista, floral and meat department sometimes all in one day. -you will be punished if you exceed your 5 hour limit before taking your lunch EVEN if you are in a checkstand with a line and no one to relieve you. YES you are supposed to leave in the middle of a transaction and take your lunch with angry customers. -Long hours on your feet -All arounf terrible treatment of all employees.

Pros

Excellent, straightforward, comprehensive training program and learning modules to ramp up quickly. Management was reasonable and attentive. It was welcoming and I felt respected, and gave my all as a result. They also make sure people don't stay longer or go without a break after the 5-hour mark; this is a California statute with which I was unfamiliar (I was guilty of working long hours without a lunch break in CT due to

Cons

This likely comes with the territory, but a significant percentage of the target customer demographic are of the needlessly disrespectful, uncivil, infantile, entitled, and rich variety. They contrive conflict and attempt to pin it on the workers, or needlessly change their order after it has been obtained. It is child's play. Company policy says to never call the police unless they are a threat to safety, but they absolutely do disturb the peace and ruin the experience for others. It doesn't help that there is an expensive (not necessarily upscale in terms of class) drinking establishment in the same plaza.
