Decent benefits, terrible everything else (worked in Windsor, CT location) - Anonymous employee WM Employee Review

Pros

The 401k matching (immediately 100% vested) and ESPP stock plan are legit. Insurance is also top notch, I've never had better at a more reasonable cost. That's the buying power you get when you have 44k employees. These benefits and pros will probably remain and continue into the foreseeable future.

Cons

Endless procedural hoops and red tape to jump through on the smallest of decisions. Processes so complex they require a 110-step flow chart (literally). No continuity or understanding of upper management decision making. One week the required profit margin is z. The next it is x. The next week it is y. The only constant is the lack of consistency in this and other areas. People in upper and middle management positions work far more than 40 hours per week, and that is expected. Therefore everyone in these positions is usually miserable, which doesn't help the situation. Program Managers are overworked beyond any and all reasonable expectations, so customer service suffers...constantly. Most of the job of any middle management employee revolves around convincing an irate customer to stay rather than gaining new business. Profit models are so complex (multiple lines of business and therefore different interests and politics) that decision making slows to a halt. Multiple individuals are involved in sales decisions, which makes any deal frustrating to close and God forbid, be internally approved. In short: don't work here unless you love company politics, red-tape, operational inefficiency and shooting yourself in the foot. If you have to sell your soul for the benefits package that's understandable, but be advised, you will be miserable. (Disclaimer: This review applies ONLY to the Windsor office. WM is a huge company, and in fairness to them, there are some great offices / management teams, and some terrible ones. Windsor definitely falls into the latter.)
