Pros

When needed the benefits help, but are short-lived. Good hours worked, working there provides a good experience and is helpful if you are in school. No store manager is perfect, but some are exemplary others certainly are not. No stress here. LOL Stable job. Pay is a little better than minimum wage. Employee discount helps for sale items. In the event of a bad circumstance for an employee, ( high utility bills, a death, etc.)all others pull together for them. Something I've not seen for a long time. Caring lacks, There is also the individual kindness of others.

Cons

Where do I start? My hours and other people's hours have been cut back 25% for most of this year. Ast managers are inconsistent and leave equipment out on the floor that customers have to go around. Some Ast managers get lazy and leave their duties for others to do. Canned food is stacked high on shelves making it difficult for customers. Sale promotion items run out all to soon or there was only 2 items on the shelf to begin with. A manager once told me that Walgreens doesn't care about families because they're in the buisness of making money. When I started, vacation days had to be taken by the end of October. Now you have to use your vacation days by October 1, thank you district manager. I use to wear a shirt and tie to work, now I wear a silly blue smock. Certain members of the alternate lifestyle can do no wrong. Communication between management and the rest of the employees is...What communication? There is none or very little. Ast managers will sometimes treat you like you are below them. You can't change shifts. Due to the economy, the Christmas bonus went out the window. Helping people is not high on the agenda. The store is more important than the customer! There is no 15 min break a couple of hours after lunch anymore. Suggested sales aren't suggested, they're forced, if the employee doesn't push the suggestion onto customers, they face termination. If your old and not fast, you get hassled and threatened with job termination. You can tell when some Ast managers are lying, their lips are movingLOL. Unless you have a college degree, forget about becoming a manager. Pharmicists and some Ast managers ring themselves up.

Pros

Can be a fun environment. All in whom your staff is. Operating photo was fun and building projects for the customers. Learning about pharmacy operations.

Cons

Work life balance and low pay for what is expected. Not having enough payroll to effectively run a store. My store ran FE on a 320 hour a week budget. That was barely enough to get buy and meet the expectations put out by the company. I was never able to keep a full leadership staff. When a leader called out, I had to stay. There were days I was called away from my own dinner table. SM's were forced to be in the pharmacy for more than half of their day regardless as to what is happening in the FE. I worked over 50 hours a week and barely got to spend time with my family. If I wasn't at the store I was getting a phone call and having to go back to the store.
