Pros
(This review is relevant for product and program management within Walmart Global Tech working remotely) I was expecting all the worst of corporate America where people only endure it for the high pay, but I have been overwhelmingly impressed by the culture of Walmart. The teams are very diverse and welcoming. Suggestions are welcomed and even executives are approachable. You get a lot of autonomy to work how you want, if you want to be more aggressive or if you want to be more “go with the flow”, but the culture is mostly go with the flow. There are lots of opportunities to move around, gain broad experience and move up in your career. I believe Walmart genuinely invests in its people and retention. The organization is so large, you really can swim around to find teams that are a best fit for your work and style. It is very remote friendly and if you are anywhere other than the highest COL areas, the pay is very good.
Cons
I have not yet experienced any cons that are dealbreakers. But of course there are the typical megaCorp challenges such as red tape, legacy systems, politics and “knowing the right people”. The most common complaint I’ve heard is consistent re-orgs. IMO this can be a con but also a Pro because it allows someone who is talented to move around and get broad experience and try new challenges, but for someone who is not adaptable to change, this could feel unsettling. Within Tech, a reorg typically means a new team, not termination, so there is a sense of safety, as clearly WGT is aggressively hiring across the board.
