Pros
There's all the opportunity in the world available to those that want it, but you have to go out and get it. We are a growth company, and this applies to both the size of the business, and people development. The outward facing appearance of our culture can seem too good to be true, but it's genuine and results in a sense of camaraderie unlike any other that I have experienced. Each employee is trusted and empowered to act as an owner, of the culture and the business, resulting in increased engagement. Last but not least, the sector that our business operates in is extremely stable, able to weather the ups and downs of the economy.
Cons
While I love the decentralized structure, it can be challenging for those that are expecting an "instruction manual" on how to do their job. Decentralization and autonomy isn't for everyone. The most successful Waste Connections employees must take a proactive approach to their own personal development.
