Disappointing - Service Technician Weed Man Employee Review

Pros

Independence during work day. Once you leave the shop its just you and the customers. Very little breathing down neck. Potential to earn solid pay based on performance and sales. Although the owner is the reason I left, not everything about him is bad. He would take us out to pizza parties occasionally and is lenient with alterations needed in the work schedule.

Cons

I was the only employee to receive the healthcare that's promised to all new hires, and that's only because I nagged him for months. That is a legal breach of employment agreement to not give employees benefits that were promised upon hiring. He then took away my insurance the day before Christmas. For months, I would show up at an agreed upon time and be forced to wait unpaid for an hour until the owner showed up. He finally gave me a key to solve this repeated issue. After having the key I was the first employee to show up everyday and loaded the proper materials for the other technicians. This was my attempt to show that I could handle managerial duties. He at one point promised to create a manager role and present the required duties to me, but he never did. In my first year I had the highest sales figures of all technicians, yet he never seemed to truly appreciate the extra work I put in compared to his longer tenured technicians. Lastly, the owner refused to give me my tax documents and tried lying and saying that I chose 1099 option in onboarding. Luckily I had all my documentation proving otherwise. My accountant also attempted to solve this in a civilized manner, but was forced to contact the IRS when the attempts were ignored. Disappointing, because a few changes could have convinced me to stay and make a career with Weed Man.

Pros

Great family-owned company to work for! Very personable and supportive management. There is a strong sense of teamwork, and everyone is willing to help when needed. I have appreciated the flexibility and opportunities to grow professionally.

Cons

The busy season can be demanding at times, so priorities can shift quickly, but that is to be expected in this industry, and they help provide support and make it easy to adapt!

Pros

Training is emmaculate and you meet some great people, at first it seems like Management is there to help you.

Cons

Low pay… starting people at $14 an hour plus commission is insane, and saying with the commission it will make up the rest is also insane, you’re required to call more than 300 people a day, for every day you don’t get a sale they pull you into Zoom which is really discouraging because even if you get 4 sales the day prior they really think you’re doing something differently & poking at you to give them an answer.. manager will blame you for their mistakes or the lack of information they provide but will snap at you for not knowing. You’d think selling lawn care should be easy and laid back but they make you do a bunch of homework for every call you make or take, filling out 3 sheets, if you sell someone you have to go through 18 confirmations with the client, make them state their name & put a card on file… for $14 an hour you’re asking people to do a lot.
