Pros
- Boston Medical Center is truly a mission based non-profit, and as a result, the work culture is really warm, welcoming, and supportive. They are providing healthcare to the neediest in our society. In addition to providing that care, they are also advocating for healthy equity. - The culture at BMC is great. Even when there are disagreements, those disagreements are handled from a place of mutual respect. I have never had any issues taking vacation time when I need it, or stepping out for appointments. -Diversity and Inclusion has already been a key tenet before the murder of George Floyd finally brought that discussion to most corporations.
Cons
The bad side of BMC being such a warm and supportive environment, is there are also no consequences for failed deliverables. As such, there is minimal to no documentation, and when tasks arise, there can be often be games of hot potato, where everyone assumes that a task is someone else's responsibility. There has been a lot of effort towards changing that dynamic, but those steps are slow going so far.
