Past "cowboy culture", while resulting in "hyper growth" for several years, involved ragged attention to quality, process, and culture, which has now caught up to Cree. Throughout 2016 and through at least mid-2017, the company is facing significant revenue headwinds and new competitive pressures that are resulting in major share loss. As a result, the company has repeatedly downsized its workforce and is layering management with outsides who will change the culture from innovation to bureaucracy. High turnover, high burnout environment these days.
