Pros

Culture, good technologies , free food and shuttles and onsite perks . Managers really are trained well to engage their employees and provide mentorship. They are also pretty hands-on. Looks like moving internally is pretty easy given you have good contacts and make a good impression. Other benefits like tuition reimbursement, internal tools training, onsite farmers market, gym and paid laundry facilities are pretty good. The Starbucks like free coffee bars and the juice bars are awesome. Basically , this company makes me feel that I'm valuable to them. They have pretty good health insurance and 401k match.

Cons

No cons so far. May be how the benefits and reporting structure will change post Verizon take over is one of the anticipated con:

Pros

Relatively easy to get things done for a company with such a long history. Certainly not "start up" like, but processes like resource allocation have less overhead than working at a company like Google. Pay was pretty good for the midwest. I hear they are currently pretty open to remote work. It's also not the hardest place to work.

Cons

Opportunities are limited in software engineering. Since Apollo took over, SE was viewed mostly under the lens of "what is the least we can invest here to get the job done". There used to be a really good office in Champaign with lots of very talented software engineers put together. That's gone now.
