Pros
I have been working with the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence for nine years and I love every aspect of my job. As educational researchers housed in the Yale School of Medicine we have a unique opportunity to conduct meaningful translational science in the service of all students and all the teachers who educate them. I have worked with the most supportive and authentic of team members and leaders who have collectively pushed us to evolve to meet the needs of school communities in real time. My mentors have been exceptionally supportive and never failed me in their support of my career growth.
Cons
Applied science done well takes more time than any publication will ever do it justice. Our research in schools is time intensive and our interest in sharing results in real time to support schools and teachers to use the information effectively and support their students is much more than a 9-5. That is the nature of applied academic research.
