Pros
Academia and unionized position, so great benefits that help make up for lower than private industry pay. Includes a good deal of PTO, sick days, and holidays. Supports training as employee and learning more techniques . Many Yale-affiliated benefits like discounts, first time home owners programs, financial counseling, etc.
Cons
Primarily the lower than industry pay, so less appealing for people other than individuals transitioning from one stage to another like premeds/pre-professional school recent undergrads. Also, quality of life depends on the PI. My experience has been good, but I've heard of bad experiences from connections at other research institutions.
