Pros

I believe that the mission is solid. Some incredible colleagues work here and they genuinely care. Also, there are some exceptional students who have come into this program.

Cons

I was fired from Year Up recently for speaking out against how the recent layoffs were done. A total of 140 people were laid off. They had meetings with HR and were told not to say anything. These folks were immediately cut off from email and Slack and were not allowed to say goodbye to their coworkers or student coachees. I called this out and experienced retaliation. When I was fired, I had already given a two week notice. HR did not give me an official reason for being fired. I had no records of underperformance.

Pros

Love working here; commitment to DEI and supporting students toward job opportunity and economic agency; everyone I work with is really smart and passionate and good at what they do

Cons

Can be hard to take time off despite decent PTO package; upper leadership doesn't seem to trust or value the feedback of the people doing direct work with students; after big layoffs early 2026, a lot of us are working extra hard and would appreciate some grace and understanding and flexibility from leadership
