Lansing Correctional Facility has a unique combination of maximum security and mentally ill offenders. The management team has been put together with this in mind. The leader of the healthcare team is a master’s level Licensed Psychologist and the Director of Nursing has over 10 years’ experience working in multiple correctional facilities. They oversee a staff of over 90 licensed individuals as they direct both the medical and mental health care needs of over 2000 offenders.
With over 90 healthcare professionals working at the facility, there are the usual variances in work efficiency that one would expect in such a high number of workers. While not all seek to maximize their potential, many of these professionals see corrections as a calling and enjoy the challenge of caring for an under-served population. Their professionalism is high and they would be viewed as exceptional healthcare workers in any setting. The healthcare program recently underwent a national accreditation audit by the American Correctional Association in March 2017, and they found that the Lansing leadership and staff met 100% of the nationally recognized standards for providing medical/mental health services to their offender population.
The facility is older but the actual medical unit is one of the finest in the correctional industry. It is only 10 years old. Because of the age of the institution, the Department of Corrections is in the planning phase of building a new institution on the same property to replace it.
If you want to challenge your ability to use every skill in your professional repertoire, I would encourage you to check us out for yourself.
