Pros

You can work as many hours as you want

Cons

Poor and unprofessional management team. Management parties with staff. Management does not know the meaning of professionalism. If you are a male and lazy this is the place for you.

Lansing Correctional Facility has a unique combination of maximum security and mentally ill offenders. The management team has been put together with this in mind. The leader of the healthcare team is a master’s level Licensed Psychologist and the Director of Nursing has over 10 years’ experience working in multiple correctional facilities. They oversee a staff of over 90 licensed individuals as they direct both the medical and mental health care needs of over 2000 offenders. With over 90 healthcare professionals working at the facility, there are the usual variances in work efficiency that one would expect in such a high number of workers. While not all seek to maximize their potential, many of these professionals see corrections as a calling and enjoy the challenge of caring for an under-served population. Their professionalism is high and they would be viewed as exceptional healthcare workers in any setting. The healthcare program recently underwent a national accreditation audit by the American Correctional Association in March 2017, and they found that the Lansing leadership and staff met 100% of the nationally recognized standards for providing medical/mental health services to their offender population. The facility is older but the actual medical unit is one of the finest in the correctional industry. It is only 10 years old. Because of the age of the institution, the Department of Corrections is in the planning phase of building a new institution on the same property to replace it. If you want to challenge your ability to use every skill in your professional repertoire, I would encourage you to check us out for yourself. Gerald (Jerry) Jorgenson Director of Operations, KS Region Kansas Regional Office

Pros

Have had a diverse amount of technologies over the years to work with and the job pace itself is not super face paced so in most cases, can take time to resolve issues without feeling too rushed. This allows for more research time on complex issues and learning about new technologies as we implemented them.

Cons

There hasn't been any upward movement available in a long time, no chances for advancement anymore. The company financials have steeply declined since the last ownership change. Bills aren't getting paid on time so we are stuck chasing down getting a bill paid to get Internet connections back up for example. Communication is also very much non-existent as to the state of the company, so have to rely on what is in the news to find out any real answers. Company recently filed for bankruptcy. We haven't been paid it over 25 days but we are expected to still show up and perform our normal duties.
