3i implants as they were once called were once one of the big 5 dental implant companies. Through a series of take overs, mergers, cost cutting drives and senior management that has no interest in the dental part of the business this company has fallen to become a bit part player in dental implants, quite probably outwith the top 10 now. The huge fines and subsequent monitorship from the US dept of Justice for bribing healthcare professionals, government officials and using third party brokers in various locations globally didnt help either.
At a local management level, poor training, poor support, lack of focus and an overwhelming obsession with compliance issues and producing reports means that sales staff aren't given the time and support needed in front of customers to drive sales. Also, nothing can be decided quickly and at a local level, everything has to come from the USA, whether that be new products or the company vehicle policy. As an example - all vehicles must be automatic and diesel, this is clearly and american policy where most cars are automatic! In Europe we all learn on manual gearboxes and automatics and diesels carry higher tax burdens!
Zimmer Biomet would be best to just sell off the dental implants division to Nobel Biocare, Dentsply Implants or one of the other big players.
