Pros
- Typical retail work - the hardships and difficult customers/colleagues are to be expected. - Management allows holidays and breaks as long as you tell them with a few weeks notice and considers your personal schedule. - Management will listen if you have concerns. - Lets us know how the store is doing. - Some level of patience - Discounts
Cons
- bp is very outdated with its attitude towards customers - always that they're right. Other stores have signs stating they will not tolerate abuse from customers, bp (higher management, not just from one store) acts like a doormat for customers. There was very little/no acknowledgement, no care, from management when an employee experiences verbal abuse. When this was mentioned, excuses were promptly made. - Much more dangerous than other retail work as you deal with fuel, a flammable substance, and there is not enough training in person for this part specifically. - Suspiciously reduced hours once a mistake has been made. - Management needs to stay within their professional boundaries and not get personal with their critiques if they are dissatisfied with an employee. You have no right to say some things, like telling someone starting their career 'I think you'll be like this in every job you have'. Power imbalance makes them think they do. - Management needs to recognise privacy of employees and not go around telling them private details of another. I would not recommend working here. It's not worth the minimum wage.
