Pros

Talented people. Great benefits and work life balance. Great product and platform. Customers love to share their story with you about how ebay inspires them and allows them to be successful. Provided some wonderful development opportunities. Super fun activities throughout the year to keep employees engaged. Communications team at the higher levels is great. Loved the company, hated the politics and bureaucracy.

Cons

CS supervisors not held accountable to driving success nor holding their agents accountable. Running a project was much more important than the success of your team. Promotions within a supervisor and manager role given based on favoritism and how many projects you could complete even if your team was neglected at the sake of the cx experience. Too many cooks in the kitchen when it came to getting anything fixed or improved which made it impossible to get it done. Customer experience suffers because it's so hard to get improvement of products and tools. Poor partnership with project/product management and those affected by said projects/products. Tool changes roll out prior to being ready(most likely trying to hit a deadline) at the detriment to the agent/customer experience. Some people managers didn't know how to manage people. Some were put in roles due to being subject matter experts for the department instead of experience with managing people.

Pros

Challenging work, great company culture. There is something genuinely motivating about building for a brand that everyone knows and uses: the scale and real-world stakes make the work feel meaningful. The AI work specifically is at the frontier of applied AI: production systems, hard problems in agentic workflows and evaluation, and real customer impact. Good work-life balance. Leadership is more engaged and technically credible than I expected from a company this size — when I built a prototype, senior stakeholders engaged substantively and supported continued investment quickly. Competitive compensation, sharp colleagues, and a well-sized Austin office with a focused, collaborative feel.

Cons

Like any tech company, there is some legacy code to deal with which can cause friction. That said, eBay has made meaningful progress on modernizing the tech stack and has genuinely embraced the latest tools: AI development here uses current frameworks and infrastructure, not decade-old patterns. Large company coordination processes (security reviews, cross-team alignment) can slow things that could move faster, and vendor partnerships add some communication overhead. But the reach of what you build makes it worth the extra overhead.
