Pros
They pay well if you actually get the salary in the job listing, benefits are good, and I met a handful of people I consider myself lucky to call friends.
Cons
What can I say about my time at eBay...it was like entering a time machine to 2000, but you wound up in an alternate universe where nothing functioned as it should and everything was backwards. It was almost comical how much this place cannot perform simple functions that are easily accomplished anywhere else. How long does it take to get a single email out the door from kickoff to deployment? Actual months. So many different teams/people have their hands in so many different things and none of it makes sense. In my 15+ years, I haven't come across anything quite like eBay (and I don't mean that in a good way). In my experience, there's a gender pay gap, they don't accurately advertise job descriptions, do layoffs every few months (sorry, they call it a "re-org"), are not transparent with any of their operations or changes that will impact employees, and squander talent to the point where you feel like a mindless robot. They treat their employees like chess pieces as the company sees fit. There was just no process or respect for teams’ roles. Truth be told, I feel almost a sense of relief to be moving on. It’s sad because I remember being so excited about eBay. I remember being such an advocate and having high hopes that were ultimately crushed by the reality of the brand. Even now recruiters still reach out hoping to bring me back in to work for eBay - so bizarre. I’m sitting here trying to come up with something useful I learned from my time at eBay - maybe it will come to me some other time. I expect eBay will continue on, mediocre as ever, until it’s acquired and sold off for parts.
