Pros

Your co-workers will be amazing. The Account Managers at England Logistics are some of the hardest working most ingenious people you will meet. Potential for decent incentive pay in some departments (Factoring, FTL) England Logistics will hire just about anyone with a college degree. If you're looking for a place to start your career and you can tough it out for a few years while showing results it's not a bad choice. After that you'll already be ready to move on.

Cons

No non-monetary recognition, your "voice" will never be heard, all of the benefits are terrible. They never let off the gas pedal. When you look at the faces of England employees you'll notice that they are tired and disgruntled. The company has a higher than normal turnover rate among Account Managers (sales). Every support department is understaffed and overworked. Although the company grew remarkable over the time I was there they also cut commissions in most departments.

Pros

You will learn to work hard and be efficient. Working at England has provided some major experience that will benefit me throughout my career, regardless of where I go.

Cons

I cannot speak for the Salesman, but the operations, support, admin, etc are just not compensated competitively or valued by management. Expect to be overworked, and offered little for any extra effort. The company talks about opportunity to move with in the company and opportunity to "move up" and be paid more but the reality is that most people quit within the first 6 months... Maybe they are the smart ones. The company talks of "internal values" of team building and good communication but in reality, it has reached a culture of bullying and intimidation. Fear is the driving factor to get people to work hard. Benefits are terrible. I have found and pay for a better health care package through a private insurance company rather than pay more money for higher deductibles through the England owned health insurance company that offers benefits.

Pros

The company is very performance driven, and rewards accordingly. They are accomplishing some great things, and continue to make progress in the industry. There are some really great and talented people that work for this company. I enjoyed my interactions with many of them. Jim Monkmeyer is a stand-up guy, and brings a lot to the company. They have some pretty cool events and shwag that get much of the company involved and getting to know each other. They exhibit a lot of fun ideas to build the culture. The industry is fast moving with a lot of opportunity. EL has the ability to make some things happen, and it will be exciting to see what they can accomplish.

Cons

There really is not much training and development being done for the employees and managers. There are a lot of new managers/directors there, and they do not get an ample opportunity to learn leadership skills. I saw this happen with the Directors I worked with, and I was also not given a day of training before taking on the management of 2 teams. I think that they are really missing the mark with this, and lose a lot of talent out the doors of people that this new leadership is supposed to be managing. Investing in this would more than pay for itself. From a Lean standpoint, this is probably a lot more costly than they realize. From the first day I was there I noticed, and was told time and time again from each team I managed that they were scared on a daily basis of losing their job. I think that there is a common theme in the reviews you read here, and they coincide with a reality of the culture of fear that exists. EL is doing a lot to work on this, but this is a large obstacle to overcome.
