Pros
- Coworkers: The people on my team are extremely bright and helping each other is second nature. There are plenty of companies where coworkers will try to backstab you and feed you false information, but Enova is as far away on that spectrum as possible. I feel comfortable going to anyone with a question, knowing they will help or point me to someone who would know the answer.
- Culture: The idea of "best idea wins" is really taken seriously. Business leaders will listen to the freshest analyst if his/her ideas are good. I was able to show the advantages of an overhaul of one of our products and have it implemented within 3 months of working. Office attire is very laid back, hours are flexible. Great work-life balance. Of course there are still work deadlines, but the ratio of projects with flexible deadlines to hard deadlines is more like 2:1. Can't really beat that.
- Perks: Kitchens stocked with food and drinks; Haircuts, manicures, massages, dry cleaning every month; Summer hours mean you can go home at 2PM on Fridays; Many many company outings: movies, happy hours, dinners, lunches, events at least twice a month.
- Diversity: Many bright workers of all ethnicities and nationalities. Enova sponsors H1B visas, which is a big plus, especially for new grads stressed about being able to stay in the country without going to grad school. Around half of my team come from other countries.
- Work: Assigned work can be exciting or mundane, but they really encourage you to pick up new projects, learn new skills as much as you can comfortably handle. Direct managers emphasize self goal setting, and frequently check in to see how you're doing. You also get a lot of exposure to departments outside of your immediate team. Update business leaders with ROI calculations, help Marketing target customers effectively, design product details with Strategy&Ops, work with Developers to implement the models you build.
- Training: The Analytics team has tech sessions once a month. Members frequently go to conferences, and the director is the president of the local American Statistical Association, which are great chances to learn how other professionals operate and to network with them.
Cons
- Perks: Constant access to food can lead to weight gain; Haircuts, manicures, massages have limited spots so they fill up within 2 minutes of the monthly announcement; 401k matching is not great, company contribution doesn't vest fully until after 5 years.
- Promotion process is a victim of having young and bright people with high expectations: I don't have the same gripe as some other reviewers. Getting promoted anywhere takes work, luck, and the good graces of your boss. Management has set guidelines on what's required at each level, but obviously they will be just necessary but not sufficient steps to promotion. There are plenty of examples of people here who have been promoted quickly, and nobody doubts how much work they've put in, but the list of requirements serves to just further tease those who expect to advance by checking a set number of boxes.
