Pros

Decent Benefits, 401K, PTO, etc. Run by people who were in the Oil industry, with a lot of knowledge. People who actually cared abut the company. Nice parties and offsite events.

Cons

Don't really have a finger on the pulse of the ones who actually have to pay for the services; those are usually totally different than the people who actually use the tools. When I was there, a lot of time wasted on things that didn't pan out or were not salable. Seemed to spend more on sales force than actual development team.

Pros

Innovative technology with rapid active development of new products, management team with a focus on growth and profitability while maintaining and fun small company culture (500+ employees isn't small anymore).

Cons

The oil & gas industry is down, customers are hesitant to spend money regardless of value. Pay is good but commission checks come long after the quarter end with a convoluted rate plan that has no visibility until the checks are being processed...

Cons

Job: I spent 2 years at Drillinginfo. During that time, there were 3 re-structures which resulted in 3 lay-offs along with more responsibility added to every individual in the sales department. No growth opportunities but added work and quota. It is true what others have mentioned, the sales manager prefers to hire Tech grads externally. Just looked on linkedin. Compensation: Beneath industry standards. Sales operations would also take 2 1/2 months to process commission after each quarter. The bigger frustration, however, is that they would change comp plans each quarter and sales people would receive comp plans 6-8 weeks into the quarter. This consistently happened every quarter and became a running joke. This is not the norm for a company that has been around this long. Management: There were a few good managers at Drillinginfo amongst a sea of terrible, incompetent ones. Bad hiring practices followed up by letting these people go. There were 6-7 3 month hire/fire turnarounds during my time at the company. Some of that was due to bad hires but also management not setting these people up for success from the beginning. Conclusion: If you are married to oil and gas as some people are here then I would say maybe it is worth it, however, if you are more focused in tech, I would recommend looking elsewhere. This is Austin, Texas. There are many better, run companies to work for and better paying ones.
