Pros

The corporate office is metro accessible and some of the people are nice. There are a lot of good lunch options near the office. The best things about it are related to its location.

Cons

Management makes it fairly clear they do not care about its employees, nor do they really know what they are doing. Turnover rate is really high. They seem to have made the choice that it’s better for them to fire and hire someone new than to adequate train or try and retain people. I was told in the interview I would travel 10% of the time and it was more like 80%. It really is a culture of us vs them with management and management does seem to have a coherence plan of action. If they do, it places very little value on individual employees. The first time I got any inclination there any sort of problem with my performance was in my 3 month review with HR present. Never once had I been told to do anything different or a would have and issues where brought that happened in my first week on the job. Never once did anyone bring it up be me directly, they waited almost 3 months for the review. I am more than willing to take criticism and want to correct any mistakes I might make but without any feedback until HR is involved is really unfair. I was not the only one this happened to, it’s a pattern.

Pros

They offerwhat seems to be a higher than normal salary , but inst after expenses Enviva believes they can save money by acting as their own CM / EPC / GC firm as is attempting to create one ____ but have had no success on projects to date. It seem to be that Contractors on past and present projects have hit them up with Change Orders ( because of changes and ill defined scope ) which they believe they can better manage themselves.

Cons

Very high turn over of direct hire Construction management personnel on all (2) projects in the past year. Actual project starts dates are delayed for 6 months plus and relocation to job sites delayed . Employee must pay their own expenses to stay in Raleigh while the project is delayed, or drive 60 - 150 miles( 1 way ) from jobs sites to Raleigh to report to work each day ( with no reimbursement ) if they relocate to Job sites and project is delayed. Projects that are not out of the ground yet are already over budget , money is being transferred from one project to another to other projects to make financials look good . 2 projects already funded will likely be over budget prior to completion , seeing as they are already forecast to exceed the budget and are transferring money . There was a huge push for hiring in Raleigh in 2014 and it appears to have been to meet a quota ( possibly for tax credits or IPO ) and not based on actual project needs ,, ground breaking , or actual project start dates . There is little or no direction provided to project teams, No management in place to provide any direction to teams. Only 2 people at Enviva that were involved with previous projects over the past years are currently with the company. Turnover of new hires - PM , construction managers and staff is very high over past 12 months . Most existing salaried Construction Team employees believe they will not have a a job after completion of their current project assignment , and are seeking other jobs already, But some are retirees and are just riding this gig out and dont care about the future. The company expects to hire people and require them to relocate their family to Raleigh, simply to assign them to job sites elsewhere basically full time . They will not to pay for travel home to any location other than Raleigh and they refuse to pay perdiem at the job site , but say they will pay actual expenses out of town. Overtime is expected with no reimbursement IMO , The company is hiring excessively large teams ( 10-15 people) to manage 100M projects , there will be limited or no work for these people after completion of each project Enviva thinks they can purchase equipment smarter , cheaper and t more efficiently or cost effectively than Large Contractors that do it all the time. But is inefficient in doing so.
