Pros

EM consulting roles fit in between a lot of the extremes of other types of jobs. It's not a back-office quant job, but it's not a front-office customer support job either, it's an in-between role with a lot of the benefits of both. You become a technical expert in the accounting, finance, coding, and compensation realms, and also learn a lot about the soft skills of client management. It's also a good in-between pace where it's not the 90-hour weeks of investment banking, but also not the slow career growth you might see in larger, slower-paced companies, and instead offers good growth at a more sustainable pace.

Cons

It's not for everyone, and the pros can be cons as well. Blending front-office and back-office skills means the learning curve is very steep, and you can be pulled in multiple directions at once sometimes. While the hours aren't like i-banking, there are busy and intense times of year like in any professional services job.

Pros

Very early in your career you are exposed complex problems and business decisions that flexes analytical and soft skill sets. The job is not for someone who is looking for clearly defined responsibilities and steps to do the job. It provides lot of freedom and flexibility to come up with novel ideas and solutions. The management encourages people to develop new skills and gain new exposure points. Management is big on feedback and supports you to explore your interests. Great culture with a flat organizational structure. Senior management hang out with new associates regularly and take them out for lunch to appreciate the good work. The skill sets developed at equity methods is a lifelong asset that helps you in career advancement.

Cons

The company is growing at a very fast pace which sometimes gives an unsettling feeling. This just proves that there is no gain with no pain
