Pros

Freedom to develop curriculum

Cons

Leadership out of touch with needs of certain departments. Most teachers walk around like they're better than others. Teachers are also very clicky and most act as if they are also in middle school/high school.

Pros

Teaching online is very rewarding. You can focus on your actual lessons instead of classroom management, rewards, and consequences. Most students are well behaved. The main issue is student engagement. Since students are logging in from home, it is difficult to be able to monitor how well they are paying attention to the lessons. Another pro is you form some very tight relationships with your students, many of whom did not do well in traditional school, due to bullying, or moving to a new neighborhood, or needing a special schedule to accomodate other goals (e.g., sports training, the need for a job during traditional school hours, etc.)

Cons

Administration expects huge amounts of work to be produced, which can only really happen if you are working 24/7 at work, at home, on your weekends, and missing hours worth of sleep. Expectations are not effectively communicated. Only one evaluation at the end of the year -- can make or break your reputation and/or career. This reviewer did not recieve any feedback at all until the very last day of classes, at which point I learned my performance was not satisfactory, for many bogus reasons. Recieved no negative feedback at all the entire year. Also, expectations like having all your grading done by a certain date, only gets announced on the day before that date, leaving you with no choice to essentially stay up all night grading, in order to meet the last minute deadline. Not a fair practice for the teachers OR the students.
